Cookie Policy

Last updated: January 1, 2025 | Effective date: January 1, 2025

This Cookie Policy explains how Learpy Tecnologia Educacional Ltda. ("Learpy," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies when you visit our website at learpy.org and use our AI-powered adaptive learning platform (collectively, the "Services").

This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which provides broader information about how we process your personal data. If you have questions about our use of cookies, please contact us at privacy@learpy.org.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognize your device and remember information about your visit, such as your preferences or login status. Cookies are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and to provide information to the website operators.

In addition to cookies, we may use similar technologies such as web beacons (also known as "pixel tags" or "clear gifs"), local storage, and session storage. For the purposes of this policy, we use the term "cookies" to refer to all such technologies collectively.

2. How Learpy Uses Cookies

Learpy uses cookies for the following primary purposes: (1) to operate the Services and ensure they function correctly; (2) to remember your preferences and settings; (3) to keep you securely logged in to your account; (4) to understand how you use our Services so we can improve them; and (5) with your consent, to analyze aggregate usage patterns through analytics tools.

We do not use cookies for behavioral advertising, cross-site tracking, or to build profiles for sale to third-party advertisers. Our cookie usage is strictly limited to what is necessary to provide and improve our Services.

3. Types of Cookies We Use

3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for you to be able to use our Services. Without them, services you have asked for cannot be provided. Strictly necessary cookies do not require your consent under applicable law, as they are required for the basic functioning of the platform. You cannot opt out of strictly necessary cookies while continuing to use the Services.

Cookie Name Purpose Duration
session_token Maintains your authenticated session. Without this cookie, you would be logged out on every page navigation. Session (deleted on browser close)
csrf_token Cross-Site Request Forgery protection. Prevents unauthorized commands from being submitted on your behalf. Session
learpy_user_id Identifies your account for service delivery purposes. Required to load your personalized learning path. 30 days
cookie_consent Stores your cookie consent preferences so we do not ask for consent on every visit. 1 year

3.2 Functional Cookies

Functional cookies allow our Services to remember choices you make and provide enhanced, more personal features. They may be set by us or by third-party providers whose services we use. The information these cookies collect is used to improve your experience and is not used for advertising. These cookies require your consent.

Cookie Name Purpose Duration
ui_preferences Stores your interface preferences including dark mode setting, language selection, and navigation state. 1 year
last_visited_course Remembers the last course or module you were viewing so we can return you to your place when you come back. 30 days
notification_dismissed Records which platform notifications you have dismissed so they are not shown again unnecessarily. 90 days
video_playback_position Saves your position within video content so you can resume from where you left off. 30 days

3.3 Analytics Cookies

Analytics cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our Services. They help us understand which pages are the most and least popular and how visitors move around the site. All information collected by analytics cookies is aggregated and therefore anonymous. These cookies require your consent.

Cookie Name Provider Purpose Duration
mp_* Mixpanel Tracks product feature usage and user flows to help us understand how the platform is used and identify areas for improvement. 1 year
_learpy_analytics Learpy (first-party) Internal analytics tracking page views, session duration, and feature engagement in aggregate. Session

3.4 Third-Party Cookies

Some features of our Services are provided by third parties who may set their own cookies. We have limited control over these cookies. Third-party cookies on our platform include:

  • Stripe: Our payment processor may set cookies to prevent fraud and maintain the security of payment sessions. These are strictly necessary for payment processing.
  • Intercom: Our customer support widget uses cookies to maintain chat sessions and provide contextual support. This requires your consent and is only active if you initiate a support conversation.

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or other advertising network trackers. We do not permit any advertiser or data broker to set cookies through our Services.

4. Local Storage and Session Storage

In addition to cookies, our platform uses browser local storage and session storage to store data directly on your device. This is distinct from cookies but serves similar purposes. We use local storage to maintain your authentication state between browser sessions, store your learning progress data locally for performance optimization, and record your cookie consent decision (stored under the key "cookieConsent"). We use session storage for temporary data such as unsaved form inputs, active quiz states, and navigation history within a session. You can clear local storage and session storage through your browser settings; however, doing so will log you out and may reset some preferences.

5. Managing Your Cookie Preferences

5.1 Cookie Banner

When you first visit our website, you will see a cookie banner that allows you to accept or decline non-essential cookies (functional and analytics categories). Your choice is saved in local storage under the key "cookieConsent" and will persist for your future visits. You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser's local storage or by contacting us at privacy@learpy.org to request a reset of your consent record.

5.2 Browser Controls

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through the browser settings. You can set your browser to refuse all cookies, to receive notification when a cookie is set, or to delete cookies after each session. Please note that restricting or deleting cookies may affect the functionality of our Services — in particular, refusing strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in. Instructions for managing cookies in popular browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
  • Mozilla Firefox: Options → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
  • Apple Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data

5.3 Opt-Out of Analytics

You may opt out of Mixpanel analytics tracking at any time by visiting mixpanel.com/optout or by contacting us at privacy@learpy.org. If you opt out, we will use an opt-out cookie to signal to Mixpanel that your data should not be collected. Note that this opt-out cookie must itself be stored in your browser; if you delete your cookies, you will need to opt out again.

6. Do Not Track

Some browsers have a "Do Not Track" feature that signals to websites that you do not want to be tracked. Our Services do not currently respond to Do Not Track signals because there is no industry-wide standard for how such signals should be honored. We will update this policy if an industry standard for Do Not Track response is established.

7. Children

Our Services are not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly use cookies to collect information from children under 16. If you are a parent and believe your child has used our Services, please contact us at privacy@learpy.org.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable laws. We will notify you of material changes by displaying a prominent notice on our website. Your continued use of the Services after the effective date of an updated policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
